Statement of the Job :
The Social Media Specialist is part of a division-wide team responsible for helping ensure high-quality communication and brand standards in content about the state's flagship university. The specialist identifies, researches, compiles and writes social media content to communicate with and grow communities to encourage engagement. The specialist leads the development and continuous optimization of social media strategies, systems and related processes in social channels, including, but not limited to, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. This is a position on the editorial team and collaborating with all members of the Division of Marketing and Communications team, especially the Web/Print Content Coordinator, and with other UMaine communicators who are doing social media in their respective areas. Typical hiring range for this position is $31,000-$40,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage top-level institutional social media platforms for the University of Maine and guide bestpractices for the institution.
Identify, research, compile and create high-quality content that grows online communities and promotes the University of Maine and its brand to its internal and external audiences ? from prospective and current students to alumni, stakeholders and community members.
In collaboration with the Web/Print Content Coordinator, develop, implement and maintainsocial media strategies and analytics.
Coordinate photographs, graphics and video for social media, heeding copyright, image release forms and other factors.
Understand the responsibility and vision needed to appropriately and effectively represent the institutional message on social media.
Identify and leverage social media trends and forecasts; monitors developments in social media and mobile technology to identify opportunities for innovation and collaboration.
In collaboration with the Senior Director, ensure that communications coming in through social media receive timely, appropriate responses.

Maintain platforms/services used to monitor and manage social media, and identify tools thatcan more effectively manage this content.
Work closely with colleagues in other departments to create a unified effort to promote events and information that align with the UMaine mission.
Develop a daily roundup of UMaine events and collaborate on maintenance of UMaine calendar.
Proactively communicate best practices and innovations to continually improve UMaine's social media profiles and encourage adoption of consistent and relevant social media techniques and institutional policies.
Collaborate on the division's leadership role in developing overall social media policies and procedures on behalf of the University of Maine.
Write news and feature articles, as needed.
Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :
This position would be best suited to a highly creative person who understands and can create content and community engagement in diverse mediums that supports the mission of the University of Maine. The ideal candidate will have:
Bachelor's degree in communication or related field.
At least three years of demonstrated experience working with social media platforms in a professional setting.
Proven experience with social media strategy and implementation, community management and content optimization, ideally in higher education.
Strong writing skills in a variety of formats for a wide range of audiences.
Strong editing skills, as well as outstanding proofing ability (following the rules of grammar, punctuation and an established style guide).
Strong oral communication/interviewing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively by phone and in person with a variety of audiences.
Ability to professionally represent the university and to interact well with a range of individuals and organizations.
Experience working well as a member of a deadline-driven team, with demonstrated success multitasking, prioritizing, and juggling multiple projects and effectively meeting multiple deadlines.
Experience working independently and with a team to manage work, utilizing excellent organizational and project management skills. Experience photographing and/or shooting video of people and events for press, website, social media and other communications materials.
Attention to detail as well as demonstrated skills in seeing the big picture across platforms and projects.
Team player with excellent follow-through and communication skills, and previous experience working with many different personalities in an organizational setting.
Ability to create social media graphics using Adobe Creative Cloud software, specifically Photoshop and Illustrator.
Knowledge of news writing and AP style highly desirable. Proficiency in WordPress highly desirable.
Other Information :
Work Schedule: Normal University of Maine business hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Due to the nature of the position, some work beyond regular hours (to include evenings and weekends) will be necessary to meet the requirements of the position. The employee shall establish regular office hours and in consultation with the supervisor, adjust the work schedule as appropriate.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
