Facilities Maintenance Worker CL1-Custodian

Purpose:
Facilities Maintenance Worker CL1 (formerly Custodian II) is responsible for the cleaning of campus E&G buildings to include daily, weekly, monthly and other cyclical tasks according to a managed cleaning task specific program that is assessed on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis to ensure the target cleanliness ratings are maintained. The position plays an important role in ensuring the health and safety of the campus community. It is part of the Facilities' team that is responsible for making the campus presentable for current and future students, faculty, staff and visitors. The position also assists with snow removal and sanding of building entrances and walkways. Starting pay for this position is $11.55/hr.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Cleans fixtures, furnishings and facilities in and around campus buildings in accordance with Facilities Management's standard cleaning program. Work may occasionally involve cleaning up human waste.
2. Operates a variety of cleaning equipment, uses cleaning chemicals and materials to maintain the cleanliness of assigned area(s).
3. Performs heavy lifting in the removal of trash, moves furniture and equipment to perform cleaning tasks.
4. Shovels or may operate snow removal equipment to remove snow from building entrances and walkways.
5. May pickup litter within several feet of building.
6. Climbs ladders up to 12 feet to perform necessary cleaning work.
7. Unlocks and secures buildings as required.
8. Reports maintenance issues and equipment failures as appropriate.
9. Maintains inventory levels within assigned area(s).
10. Typically requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, grasping, standing, and repetitive motions.
11. Works effectively and cooperatively with members of the Facilities Management staff, UMaine administration, the campus community, and external clients and customers.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:
1. Valid Maine driver's license required.
2. Related cleaning experience classroom and office buildings and experience working under a defined cleaning program preferred.
3. Proven ability to follow verbal and written instructions required.
4. Must possess effective communication skills.
5. Proven experience getting along with co-workers, supervisors and building occupants.
6. Proven ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision required.
7. Previous experience operating custodial cleaning equipment a plus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment may involve unpleasant odors, fumes, dust, poor ventilation, inadequate lighting, vibrations, intense noise, musty and damp environments, and hot/cold environments. The position also requires the ability to lift up to 40lbs regularly.
WORK YEAR:
Full-time, regular 12-month appointment.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Generally Monday-Friday, but is dependent upon shift and area covered.
POSITION TYPE:
E&G Funded, on-going hourly position.
SCHEDULE FOR EVALUATION:
In accordance with the Service & Maintenance Unit Agreement.

Wage Band A11, Step 2

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
