Temporary Facilities Maintenance Worker CL1 (Laborer/Grounds)

Purpose:
Full-time, temporary position, 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. Daily work hours are Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. During winter months, scheduled hours will change to a rotating shift which includes the 3:00 p.m.-11:00 p.m. shift. Overtime and callbacks outside scheduled shifts are required based on campus needs. Valid Maine Motor Vehicle Driver's License required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Employee plows and sands with a pick-up truck and 1-ton dump truck; shovels snow in tight areas using hand-held equipment;
Employee operates bobcat;
Uses hand and power tools;
Mows and rakes lawns, lays sod, spreads seed and loam;
Picks up and off-loads materials, furniture and other items on and off campus; performs set-up and tear-down duties for campus events;
Removes litter from campus grounds; directs traffic around and works on construction sites; patches holes in roadways; and performs other general grounds maintenance duties as assigned;
Employee moves furniture and related items during student fall and spring arrival and departure; and
Employee is required to work the Saturday of Commencement each Spring
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:
Proven ability to understand, carryout and relay verbal and written instructions.
Experience plowing and sanding using a 1-ton truck required (2-3 years preferred).
Skid Steer experience with joysticks (1-2 years recommended), and experience using grounds power equipment such as power sweepers and weed whackers strongly preferred.
Ability to lift up to 70lbs. regularly and perform other manual and physically demanding tasks as required.
Home phone and reliable transportation required.
The ability to be on campus within 30 minutes of being called back strongly preferred.
Appropriate pre-employment background checks required.
Works effectively and cooperatively with members of Facilities Management staff, UMaine administration, the campus community, and external clients and customers.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
