Instructional Designer (Fixed Length)

Purpose:
This position is a two year fixed length position. The possibility exists that the position may become an ongoing position depending on successful outcomes for UMaineGOLD.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This position is a two year, fixed length position and assists faculty with the creation and/or use of digital resources, including software, hardware, data, multimedia, and collaboration tools, to support the educational goals of the faculty, department, school and University. Manage the development and delivery of educational content for blended, flipped and online courses. Typical hiring range for this position is $50,000 to 60,000, annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Partner with individual faculty, academic departments and schools to conceptualize, design, develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of digital course materials. Develop, implement and manage digital projects for UMaine faculty. Apply a deep knowledge of pedagogical strategies to the creative use of technology to improve teaching and learning. Assess tools to address faculty members instructional goals.
Collaborate in the planning, technical implementation, and management of course and content development projects;
Assist in the selection and acquisition of hardware and software to meet project goals;
Develop training materials and technical documentation;
Collaborate with other UMaine staff and faculty members;
Prepare regular status reports as appropriate;
Keep abreast of emerging technologies and national trends, especially in the areas of interface design; and,
Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:
Master's degree in Education or related discipline and at least 3-5 years of professional work experience or the equivalent education and years of work experience;
Experience providing formal instruction, preferably at the college level;
Current knowledge of research on technology and learning;
Experience developing and leading faculty training initiatives preferred;
Broad knowledge of productivity, media editing, geo-spatial, statistical, modeling, and other common classes of software typically used in instruction;
Experience designing graphical elements and user interfaces for web applications;
Extensive experience with image and video editing software, especially the Adobe Creative Suite;
Broad knowledge of web browser/client side of standards such as: HTML, CSS, XML, DHTML, JavaScript, Ajax, and other evolving standards;
Experience with Premier, Final Cut Pro or other video editing software;
Extensive experience with audio and video codecs and image file formats;
Experience with a range of CMS and LMS platforms, including Blackboard;
Experience with Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline or similar applications;
Knowledge of and ability to use still and video cameras;
Must be comfortable and competent working with the following client-based operating systems: Apple Mac and iOS, MS Windows, and Android;
Experience working on a variety of projects simultaneously;
Experience managing content development projects budgets, schedules, and tasks;
Experience working independently as well as cooperatively with colleagues and clients required;
Experience working with other software and media developers on joint projects required;
Experience creating rapid prototypes for projects;
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Interpersonal and team building skills; and
Creative problem solving abilities and initiatives.
CONTACTS: Collaboration with technically fluent as well as novice faculty, staff, and students on wide range of projects.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assistant with and/or directly supervise, train, and evaluate part-time student assistants and project consultants.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Full-time, fiscal. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
WORK SCHEDULE: Normal University of Maine office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 40 hours per week. This position may require a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends or holidays, negotiated with supervisor to meet position needs.
POSITION TYPE: Full-time, two year fixed length position.
SCHEDULE FOR EVALUATION: During the initial six months of employment and annually thereafter in accordance with the UMPSA agreement.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
