Equipment Operator CL1-Resource Recovery

Equipment Operator (CL1) is one of a team of four individuals in the Resource Recovery Shop responsible for the trash pickup and disposal, operation of the composter, and maintenance of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF). The Shop also supports the efforts of the Grounds Shop for maintenance and upkeep of the campus grounds and event set up and close out, snow-plowing, and similar activities. Position is critical throughout the year, but most particularly during the opening of the Fall semester ? move-in ? and the closing of the Spring semester ? move-out and Commencement. Position works holidays during the academic year. Starting pay for this position is $12.74/hr.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Operates, loads and unloads packers and other trucks of all weights in the performance of position responsibilities for collecting rubbish and recyclables. Delivers recyclables to recycling plant and delivers trash to the incinerator.
2. Completes documentation associated with recyclable disposal as needed.
3. Assists in recycling and rubbish related storage and warehousing work for the campus and other campus locations as needed and directed.
4. Assists with the campus compost site and the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) as needed.
5. Operates a variety of hand and power tools associated with maintaining and repairing rubbish and recycle facilities, equipment and service areas.
6. May operate a variety of motor vehicles, including auxiliary devices, to move, transfer and haul materials, supplies, earth, and other matter, to include loading and unloading of materials.
7. Assists Grounds Shop in the removal and transport of snow by operating equipment such as snowplows with wing, sand dispensers, and dump mechanisms to keep campus roadways, walkways and paths cleared and accessible during winter months.
8. Performs all duties of a Facilities Maintenance Worker CL1 within the Resource Recovery Shop. Work includes, but is not limited to, physically collecting rubbish and recyclables on campus and for other campus locations as needed, and removing trash on grounds.
9. Performs inspections prior to each usage of equipment and vehicles to ensure proper operations. May perform minor repairs of equipment, as needed.
10. Position requires working the Commencement weekend and move-out each spring, the student move-in each fall and all holidays during the academic year.
11. Typically requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, sitting, and repetitive motions.
12. Works effectively and cooperatively with members of the Facilities Management staff, UMaine administration, the campus community, and external clients and customers.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:
1. Valid Maine CDL Class B or Class A driver's license required.
2. Three years' work experience operating and maneuvering a packer truck in tight locations, with experience operating a variety of vehicles, such as >1 ton trucks, pickup trucks, and other shop equipment desired.
3. Previous experience plowing and sanding roads and lots with a truck over 26,000 GVW (gross vehicle weight) preferred. Experience plowing with a wing attachment a plus.
4. Experience performing manual labor work for extended periods of time in a variety of conditions strongly preferred.
5. Proven ability to follow both written and verbal instructions.
6. Proven ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision required.
7. Home phone and reliable transportation required.
8. Ability to be on campus within sixty minutes of being called required.

Work environment may include working in cold, hot, rainy, humid, etc. weather for extended periods of time performing laborer tasks. Work may involve unpleasant odors, fumes, dust, poor ventilation, and musty and damp environments. The position requires the ability to lift up to 70lbs regularly. It also requires stepping in and out of the truck repetitively (between 70-80 times/day) during each work day which involves stepping up and down 3 steps at an overall height of 38". Position is considered an essential employee.
Full-time, regular 12-month appointment.
Monday ? Friday, hours will be either 5:00am ? 1:00pm or 7:00am ? 3:00pm, but not both, with overtime and callbacks required, as needed, which includes holidays and may include weekends.
E&G Funded, on-going hourly position.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
