Part-Time Lecturer I

The School of Biology and Ecology at the University of Maine is seeking a Part-Time Lecturer I to teach in BIO 421, Introduction to Clinical Laboratory Methods, in the Medical Laboratory Science program during the spring 2018 semester.
This is a 4 credit course that meets 3 times a week, two lectures of 75 min (Tues. and Thurs. 8 to 9:15am) and one three hour laboratory (Wed. 5pm to 8pm) per week. The class meets for a total of 15 weeks throughout the spring semester from January 22 to May 11, 2018. Consideration for additional appointments is contingent on performance. Financial compensation will be based on the level of experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
The position is to teach lecture and lab in an introductory course into clinical laboratory methods by providing background instruction on the basic theory and laboratory practice, including the theory and function of relevant laboratory instruments, and hands-on instruction in methods used in as a medical lab scientist. Topics to be covered include quality assurance, applied quality control, professionalism in the lab, statistics, urinalysis, hematology, body fluid chemistry, blood bank and coagulation. The faculty will be responsible for teaching lectures and laboratory sessions, and they will also set and grade suitable assessments in the form of assignments and exams.
The faculty member will teach the whole class or may teach the majority of the class in a co-teaching situation with members of the School of Medical Laboratory Sciences at Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor, ME.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:
The successful candidate should be a certified Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist with a broad background in clinical lab methods. The candidate should also have good written and verbal communication skills and preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
