Nutrition Education Professional

The University of Maine Cooperative Extension invites applications for a part-time (32 hours per week), fiscal-year, soft money funded Community Nutrition Education Professional for the Eat Well Nutrition Education Program to begin work as soon as possible. This position will be based in the Androscoggin/Sagadahoc Counties Cooperative Extension Office in Lisbon Falls, Maine. The Eat Well Nutrition Education Program is funded through federal Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) dollars. The position will supervise 6 to 10 Community Nutrition Education Assistants (CEAs) who directly deliver the Eat Well program in southern Maine. Additionally, the position will work to connect the Eat Well program with agencies and/or programs in their county that serve a similar audience, and facilitate the implementaton and maintenance of policy, systems and environmental (PSE) changes that support the direct education of Eat Well CEAs to improve the health of Maine's low-income families and youth. Salary range for this position is $30,000 to $32,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Provides direct, day-to-day program management of Eat Well CEAs in southern Maine.
Ensures fidelity of program delivery and implements national program guidelines.
Ensures Eat Well CEAs follow state and federal EFNEP program policy and serves the appropriate community audience.
Designs creative approaches, in collaboration with Eat Well CEAs, county staff, and Eat Well state coordinator to reach the Eat Well program audience.
Establishes and maintains effective relationships with individuals and stakeholder partner organizations/agencies that make referrals to Eat Well.
Seeks ways to reach under-served and under-represented audiences while ensuring compliance with affirmative action, equal opportunity and civil rights requirements.
Develops and maintains professional relationships that reflect courtesy, civility, and mutual respect.
Utilizes coaching and mentoring methods which provide an environment that is anticipatory, supportive, and encourages constructive feedback on performance.
Commits to organizational improvement by identifying opportunities to improve, and recommending possible alternatives for a situation.
Monitors Eat Well CEA performance and program outcomes using WebNEERS.
Holds monthly staff meetings with individuals supervised.
Participates in monthly Eat Well leadership meetings.
Monitors Eat Well CEA travel and program support budgets.
Assists with overseeing undergraduate and graduate student interns.
Travels through southern Maine.
Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in human nutrition or related field.
Registered Dietitian credentials required.
Effective oral, written and electronic communication skills.
Demonstrated experience with community nutrition education programs.
Demonstrated experience delivering nutrition education programs to diverse audiences.
Demonstated effective supervisory skills.
Accuracy and completeness is keeping fiscal records, performance assessments, and program outcomes to meet federal program goals.
Both team and individual work skills.
Ability to travel normally requiring a valid State of Maine driver's license with mileage reimbursed at the current University of Maine rate.
Appropriate background checks are required.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
