Temporary Community Education Assistant (Safety and Health Assistant)

This is a temporary position with variable hours. Work is generally performed outside of regular hours (to include nights, weekends and holidays). The employee performs emergency management, crowd management and fire safety inspections at the University of Maine. The employee will exercise a high degree of judgment and initiative in handling multiple tasks in an emergency situation with minimal supervision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Conducts fire safety and life safety inspections;
Conduct Crowd Management functions at University events;
Take predetermined action in emergencies such as accidents, fires and illness;
Provides medical care to those who may be sick or injured;
Exercises care according to State EMS protocols; and
May operate incipient firefighting equipment.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:
Fire fighter certification;
ICS & NIMS training;
Radio communication experience;
First responder training and experience;
Alarm system operation experience;
Ability to clearly read emergency announcements;
Current CPR and FIrst Aid certifications;
Will be required to complete UMaine specialized training; and
Current and active fighter status and EMT certification preferred.
The nature of this position typically requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, lifting,walking, pushing, pulling, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Appropriate background checks and pre-employment physical are required.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
