Temporary Equipment Operator CL1

Purpose:
The Temporary Equipment Operator CL1 is one of an 11-member team in the Grounds Shop responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the campus grounds and the general care of the campus community for event set up and close out, office relocations, infrastructure project assistance, and the like. This position is especially critical during the winter months to perform snow plowing, sanding and snow removal in assigned area(s) utilizing >1 ton plow trucks, 1-ton trucks, pickup trucks, and the other shop equipment. The position also assists in the upkeep of the campus roads, walkways, decks, patios, etc. for the safety of the campus community, visitors and the general public.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Operates a variety of motor vehicles, including auxiliary devices, to move, transfer and haul materials, supplies, earth, snow, and other matter, to include loading and unloading of materials.
2. Performs rough grading and/or landscape work using machinery, power and hand-held manual tools. Work includes, but is not limited to, cordoning off open pits, fallen trees and downed lighting to grooming campus lawns, posting and maintaining signage to removing debris from campus roads, walkways and grounds.
3. Operates equipment such as snowplows with wing, sand dispensers, and dump mechanisms to keep campus roadways, walkways and paths cleared and accessible during winter months.
4. Performs all duties of a Facilities Maintenance Worker CL1 within the Grounds Shop. Work includes, but is not limited, to fixing roadway hazards (potholes, uneven pavement, crosswalk striping, removing debris on campus grounds, assisting with trash pickup and removal, etc.
5. Performs clean out work in laboratories, residence halls, kitchens, classrooms, offices, etc. which necessitates moving heavy materials and equipment and may involve the removal of unsafe and unhealthy materials.
6. Performs inspections prior to each usage of equipment and vehicles to ensure proper operations. May perform minor repairs of equipment, as needed.
7. Position requires working the Commencement weekend each spring.
8. Working an evening shift during the winter months (snow season) is required as needed to meet the needs of snow removal on campus.
9. Typically requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, sitting, and repetitive motions.
10. Works effectively and cooperatively with members of the Facilities Management staff, UMaine administration, the campus community, and external clients and customers.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:
1. Valid Maine CDL Class B or Class A driver's license required.
2. Experience required ? three years' work experience using a front-end loader, backhoe, excavator, bulldozer strongly preferred.
3. Previous experience plowing and sanding roads and lots with a truck over 26,000 GVW (gross vehicle weight) required (2 years preferred).
4. Previous experience plowing with a wing attachment strongly preferred.
5. Heavy construction or large municipality experience preferred.
6. Trench work and experience working on underground utilities preferred.
7. Experience performing manual labor work for extended periods of time in a variety of conditions strongly preferred.
8. Proven ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision required.
9. Home phone and reliable transportation required.
10. Ability to be on campus within 30 minutes of being called required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work environment may include working in cold, hot, rainy, humid, etc. weather for extended periods of time performing laborer tasks. Work may also involve unpleasant odors, fumes, dust, poor ventilation, and musty and damp environments. The position also requires the ability to lift up to 70lbs regularly.
WORK YEAR:
Full-time, regular 12-month appointment.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday ? Friday, 7:00am ? 3:00pm, with overtime and callbacks required.
POSITION TYPE:
E&G Funded, on-going hourly position.
SCHEDULE FOR EVALUATION:
In accordance with the Service & Maintenance Unit Agreement.
WAGE BAND & STEP:
Wage Band A12, Step 5

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
