Retail Services Assistant - Temporary - FALL BOOK RUSH

Purpose:
FALL SEMESTER 2017 UNIVERSITY OF MAINE BOOK RUSH
NOTE: Current students are asked to apply via Student Employment
Part-time to full-time, Temporary Retail Services Assistant position for the University of Maine Bookstore. Daily work hours will vary, Sunday-Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with evening and weekend work required. The Retail Services Assistant performs a wide variety of clerical duties related to the selling, stocking, and inventory management of the university's retail operations. Training for successful candidates to begin around August 10th. Hourly range is $9.15 to $9.71 based on skills and qualifications.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Processes purchases, which involves scanning items and operating a cash register.
Maintains merchandise (such as books, supplies, general merchandise, food and beverages) on the sales floor, which includes labeling, arranging, and stocking items.
Participates in store opening and closing activities.
Performs other duties of a similar nature of level.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications:
Successful candidate will have knowledge of cash handling techniques and experience handling cash
Knowledge of customer service principles
Experience providing exemplary customer service
Candidate will have demonstrated oral and written communications skills necessary, to communicate with the staff, public and all levels of the campus community
Possess knowledge of retail operation
Knowledge of basic computer skills
Experience handling multiple tasks simultaneously
Positions requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, throughout the work day. Appropriate background checks are required.
Appropriate background checks and pre-employment physical are required.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
