Purpose :
The Raymond H. Fogler Library at the University of Maine seeks applications for a Social Science and Humanities Reference Librarian. This position supports the instructional, research, and public service functions of the University by providing reference, instruction, and collection development services. The typical hiring range for this position is $40,461 - $45,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
Reference Services
Process:
1. Provides Reference services on all subjects in social science and humanities (including science and engineering when the Science and Engineering Center is not staffed) may be up to 22 hours per week at the desk. This includes in-person, chat, email, text, and phone services.
2. Responsible for appropriate referrals.
3. Assists users in evaluating information and materials and developing appropriate search strategies.
4. Conducts computer literature searches.

1 - 3 daily

Information provided is accurate and timely.
Bibliographic Instruction
Process:
1. Instructs library users to efficiently and effectively find and use information and materials available in the Fogler Library and elsewhere.
2. Maintains contact with the faculty in assigned discipline areas, including education, psychology, and human development.
3. Instructs classes, including LBR 200, Information Literacy.
4. Leads library orientation sessions.
5. Writes and revises library guides.

1 daily; 2-5 as needed
Quality:
Instruction is timely and meets the needs of the faculty and students.
Collection Development - Reference Collection
Process:
1. Evaluates assigned subject areas, including education, psychology, and human development, in the electronic and print Social Science and Humanities Reference Collection on a continual basis.
2. Selects materials for the Reference Collection in assigned discipline areas.
3. Deselects materials for all assigned areas in the Reference Collection.
4. Maintains contact with the faculty and departments in assigned discipline areas.
5. Assists in preparing collection analyses.

1, 2 daily; 3-5 as needed

Reference collection meets the needs of the faculty and students.
Collection Development - General Collection
Process:
1. Evaluates assigned subject areas, including education, psychology, and human development, on a continual basis.
2. Selects materials for the general collection in assigned discipline areas.
3. Maintains contact with the faculty and departments in assigned discipline areas.
4. Assists in preparing collection analyses.

1, 2, 3 daily; 4 as needed

General collection meets the needs of the faculty and students.
Other reasonable related duties, including work on Library, University, and state-wide committees.
Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications :
Required: ALA accredited MLS by date of hire; working knowledge of traditional and electronic resources; reference experience, including work with e-reference tools; evidence of a strong commitment to service and research; experience with information literacy instruction; evidence of working in teams; excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred: Reference and collection development experience in an academic library; knowledge of research in education and/or psychology; demonstrated experience with Web and tutorial authorship.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
