Legal Director, Global Privacy and DP

Reporting into the Vice President, Global Regulatory Counsel, the Legal Director - Global Privacy and Data Protection is responsible for advising on privacy and data protection matters, including relevant industry standards and privacy laws, regulations and guidelines.
This role will also advise on regulatory data usage rights, cyber and information security laws, export laws, and regulatory legal issues associated with WEX's products and services including artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies.
The role will support WEX as a global enterprise, and will involve significant engagement with senior stakeholders including members of WEX's Executive Leadership Team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities o Advising on best practice and compliance with global privacy and data protection laws o Review, drafting and negotiation of privacy and data security terms in contracts, including data processing agreements and data transfer agreements o Advising on potential liability and other legal aspects related to data privacy and data security incidents o Provision of support to members of the Compliance team in relation to the development and delivery of policies, procedures, systems, frameworks, incident response frameworks and related approaches to support the enterprise's compliance with global privacy and data protection laws o Collaborate closely with the WEX legal team to design, modify and implement company policies and processes to ensure legal compliance with internal policies, as well as applicable laws and regulations, including privacy and data protection law, cloud regulations and others.
o Horizon scanning, monitoring and advising of any changes or developments in global privacy and data protection laws that may impact WEX.
o Privacy and data protection regulatory monitoring, review and management; ensuring WEX is well prepared for regulatory changes, including regulatory lobbying, regulator engagement and consultation management.
Maintain an understanding of relevant laws, regulations, industry standards, and policy trends relevant to WEX products and technology, including those related to global export laws.
o Counseling other members of the WEX legal team regarding privacy and data protection matters in various types of agreements, including software (and cloud/SaaS), data license, and professional services agreements and a variety of other general commercial contracts.
o The ability to coordinate cross-functionally, and with outside counsel in domestic and international markets, on issues related to data privacy.
o Contributing to the development of the WEX legal department culture and practices and assisting with other projects and matters in areas which may include information security, compliance, contract management, internal investigations, mergers and acquisitions and other legal and regulatory issues.
o Providing support on various information and data security initiatives, including PCI compliance, encryption, export controls, etc.
o Independently and in collaboration with the Privacy Compliance team, develop training materials and conduct training sessions for product and business teams.
Qualifications o Bachelor of Laws degree or equivalent o Qualified lawyer with current practicing certificate.
o 8-10 years of experience in the following areas:
regulatory legal support, privacy and data protection, and transactional/contract negotiation o In depth knowledge of international, federal and state laws and regulations relating to privacy and data security including GDPR and HIPAA.
o In-house legal experience o Financial services or similar regulated industry experience o Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
o Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask, prioritize, and adjust as priorities shift.
o Strong reviewing and drafting skills; commitment to quality through demonstrated accuracy and thoroughness.
o Ability to work independently, yet still be team-oriented and collaborative.
o Ability to build strong internal relationships and to act as a legal resource for business and functional leaders globally.
o Ability to apply strong problem-solving skills and excellent judgment to develop practical, business-oriented solutions.
o Sound judgment; ability to clearly make reasoned recommendations; ability to anticipate risk and be proactive in planning and communicating accordingly, including determining who should be informed and engaged.
o Proficiency in Microsoft Office and GSuite; ability to ramp up quickly on other applications and systems, including document management systems.
o Must successfully pass a background investigation.
o CIPP (US or EU) required The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position.
Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package.
Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan.
Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.

Salary Pay Range:
$173,000.
00 - $231,000.
